Evangelism

Evangelism

Evangelism is proclaiming first hand knowledge of the Gospel to non-believers by the means of sharing one’s life story.  To provide a personal testimony to our brothers and sisters the the living God makes good on His promise to us by showing us His Love, Patience and Mercy through his son, Jesus Christ.  Jesus has commanded all of us to continue His work and speak the Good News to everyone!

Prayer Quilt Ministry

As part of our Evangelism efforts, Grace Lutheran Church supports a special ministry that provides quilts to those in need of prayer and special support from their brothers and sisters in Christ. A quilt can be requested for someone in crisis, dealing with illness, grief, loss or even a traumatic event.

These quilts are made by the Prayer Quilt Ministry Team. To join the Prayer Quilt Ministry team you do not need to know how to quilt: Knowing how to pray is already good enough.

Prayer Quilt Ministry members quilt to spread the Good News and to comfort those in need.  We piece a cross on the back of each quilt so that each recipient may be enveloped in a symbol of Christ’s divine love. The love Paul wrote about in1 Corinthians13:7. Love that “bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things and endures all things.”

We receive all requests as an opportunity to “Live out Jesus’ Love.” It is our desire to literally blanket the recipient in love and prayer, and to provide a tangible reminder of our shared faith in the power of prayer and in the boundless grace of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For He said, “Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” (John 14:14)

Though the quilts are lovingly crafted by the ministry team, the true focus of the ministry is prayer. Prayers are offered on behalf of the quilt recipients throughout the making of the quilt and then again during the dedication of the quilt.   When the quilt is finished, Grace dedicates it during a worship service. Each member of the congregation is asked to pray for the recipient and then tie a knot in the quilt before the quilt is presented to the recipient or sponsor.  This simple act blesses all involved and the recipient has a tactile reminder of the many prayers said on their behalf. While the tops of the quilts are beautiful, the backing is hands-down everyone's favorite part. Each quilt has a large cross on the back so that the recipients are literally wrapped in Jesus' love whenever they curl up with the quilt.

Matthew 19:20,21(NIV)

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

John 20:21(NIV)

Again Jesus said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you."
